  1. Vetus & biodiesel VHO

VETUS Marine Engines – Now HVO Approved
In line with sustainable boating efforts, VETUS has officially approved its D-LINE and M-LINE engines for use with HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) – a low-carbon renewable diesel alternative. These engines can operate on 100% HVO (EN15940) or any blend with standard diesel (EN590) without requiring any modifications.

    What is HVO?
HVO is a renewable diesel fuel derived from waste oils like used cooking oil or tallow. It contains low sulphur and aromatics, burns cleaner than traditional diesel, and is resistant to bacterial growth due to high oxidation stability.

    Benefits of HVO Fuel
Reduces CO₂ and other emissions by up to 90%
Compatible with existing fuel systems – no changes needed
    Lower soot and particulate emissions
Safe for all certified VETUS M- and D-line engines

  2. Vetus Diesel Fuel quality grade and biodiesel

We often get questions about which diesel should be used in Vetus Diesel engines and whether biodiesel or diesel with added biodiesel can be used.
This is described in your engine manual, but here are the recommendations that apply 01.11.2022

    Fuel Quality Grade
Use only diesel fuel or diesel blends with up to 7% FAME (B7), with less
than 0.5% sulphur content of which the quality is fully controlled and
    conform the standards below.

The following fuel specifications / standards are approved:

    • CEN EN 590:2009
    • ASTM D975-09

Don’t use fuel with more than 1% sulfur!
The cetane number must be at least 49.

The exhaust emission levels determined during certification by the supervising authority are always based on the reference fuel described by law. These fuels match the diesel fuels which are in accordance with CEN EN 590 andASTM D 975. Emission levels cannot be guaranteed with o
